Hello! My name is Siti Aisyah Binti Abdullah, I am 26 years old and I am pursuing my Diploma in Special Education (Early Years). My hometown is in Johor, but I stay with my mom in Damansara Perdana.

After my SPM, I did a diploma and thereafter a degree in hospitality and tourism. However, whenever I watched my mom tutor, especially when she taught children who have special needs, I felt a deep sense of connection and compassion.

I also began to see that there is more to educating children with special needs than meets the eye. I realised that besides being equipped with the skills and know-how on how to manage them, one also has to be mentally prepared to deal with challenging situations.

My heart goes out to their parents who have been turned away by institutions that are unprepared to nurture their children. This made me feel that I could and must do something to help these children. This became the motivation for me to pursue Special Education.

I got to know about Dika College through the internet. The college offers a major in Special Needs Education, and the fees are fair and affordable. I am currently enjoying my studies at Dika. It has given me a sense of purpose, that I can make a difference in the lives of others. I can relate to this because I have had my share of uncertainties in life.

When I was 15 years old, I suffered from depression. The pressures of school life, exams, and an unhealthy relationship proved too much for me to handle. When I was 17 years old, I attempted suicide. It was a very dark moment in my life. These moments, however, gave rise to other moments that illustrated to me the strength of the human spirit.

I am very grateful to my mom and my best friend. They gave me much love and encouragement. They helped me overcome the times when I felt like I was at the bottom of the ocean. I have come a long way since then. I am happy with what I have achieved. I am very glad that I am alive today. I am thankful to Allah for giving me the strength to get closer to Him in those trying times.

When I complete my diploma, I plan to further my studies in a Masters in Psychology. I want to help and counsel people who are going through difficult times in life. I want to help them learn how to love themselves. I want to help people discover and understand their strengths and talents.

When we have this understanding, we can be decisive about what we want to do with and achieve in our lives. I have also come to appreciate that life is not merely measured through my academic pursuits; rather it is what I choose to do with the talents that I am blessed with. Always know that there are people around us who love and care for us, so open up to them and do not keep our problems to ourselves.

Life isnt always amazing. There will be times of trials and times of struggles along the way; but do not give up, be strong, believe in yourself and show life that you are going to make it no matter what it throws at you.
